SUCCINCT STORIES: THE HYMN
An
overworked single mother of 3 goes on a trip with her kids for a relaxing and
fun time. From a joyful ride and experience to screams of terror and despairing
waking nightmares which begun after one of the kids dies mysteriously on the
trip.
Angela, a woman in her mid-thirties who is
also a single mother of 3 decides to take a break from work due to being
overworked and being away from home and her kids most of the time. She tried
booking a place close to a spring but could not afford the place and had to
settle for a cabin in the woods surrounded by a mountainous range and evergreen
trees. The eldest, Hailey was hesitant about going for this trip saying odds things
like she had a weird dream the night before, Angela convinced her afterward
saying it would be the first time she would be going this far from home and it
was natural to feel that way. Convinced, they all readied their necessary luggage
and hit the road in a wintry weather.
A few hours later, on arrival, the messy
cabin was thoroughly cleaned, everything was put in place and later that
evening the cabin became brand new. Everyone was too tired to do anything else so
they just called it a night. The next morning, they had breakfast and began
planned activities for their 1 week stay. The first day was a scavenger hunt
followed by a hike down the mountain trails which ran for 2 days. Next day was
a rest day. A board game was set for the 5th day and the activity
set for the 6th day which dated Friday the 13th was
campfire stories.
Prior to the
campfire being lit, during mid-day, Hailey heard a knock on the door and
answered it. The person on the other side of the door had a smallish stature,
pale skin, and extremely dark hair with bangs that covered her eyes and was
dressed in a vintage coat, one not seen in at least 8 decades. Hailey asked the stranger her name but the
stranger kept mute, she asked again and still did not receive a response from
the unknown person. Hailey called her mom to access and handle the situation
and this time, the stranger responded to the question saying she lives close by
and wanted to say hi to them because she noticed smoke coming from the cabin
which made her assume there were people in it. After a little talk with the
girl, Angela invited her to the campfire which Hailey was in disagreement with
and Angela responded saying she seems your age, it would be a good opportunity
to make a friend.
It was now time for the campfire stories
to begin and all 5 of them were seated round the fire. Angela started things
off with a story from her childhood and schooling days. The mystery girl offered to tell a
story that was based on true events, it was about a group of friends who went
cave exploring in the 70s, and they were all in their
mid-thirties when this happened. It was a 3 day trip to the cave so they took a
van to carry extra supplies. They were 6 in number. After settling down on arrival,
they headed to the mouth of the cave and began exploring. Everything went
normal during exploration until they came across a split road where
communications suddenly stopped working. They were unsure of what to do at
first and ultimately agreed to split into 2 groups of 3 persons the left and
the right path and agreed to return to that exact spot in 3 hours. The first
hour went by, then the next and then came the final hour. Only the left path
group returned at the stipulated time and they all looked normal except for one
with a broken ankle. The present 3 were waiting for the other 3 so they could
leave the cave.
Slowly, time began passing. 2 hours later,
one of the present 3 stood up to enter the right path when suddenly one of the
other 3 walked out. At first glance, she was unrecognizable. She had somehow
become a different version of herself, a younger version. Everyone present all
had a look of disbelief on their faces and the now younger version was the most
confused
